Honest question that I think about a lot: Isn’t it weird to be a social conservative, knowing that all of history generally trends against you?
Since the beginning of civilization, there’s some minority group that’s oppressed because they look or behave differently from the majority group, and some people in the majority group are all like “Let’s keep things sucking for that minority group!” And then slowly people come to realize that maybe they’re d-bags for making things suck for that minority group, and after a long hard fight that minority group gains more and/or equal rights, and after some time goes by, it seems inconceivable that there was a time when that group didn’t have those rights.
So isn’t it weird to be a social conservative? You can look back through history and be like, “Yep, basically our position is, we push against the thing that will eventually happen and down the road everyone will agree the world is better for having happened. We’re the people that don’t want that thing to happen.”
It just seems like an odd choice.
